This is a composite picture of what could be the solution for the Gender Gap in Reading Research on this topic has shown that male modeling of reading is lacking in the literacy development of boys.Boys do not show the amount of interest as the girls in reading books. My research on technology use for this site has shown that boys maintain interest in computer games and the Internet.
I agree with you, boys do have a greater interest in computer games and the Internet.Male modelling takes place but not as often as it should in terms of reading. Some fathers do read with or to theirs sons. However, mothers are generally relegated to the role of storyteller /reader. Males will play football, cricket, electronic games and talk about cars. My observations are based on how my brothers interact with their sons and nephews, and my brothers in law with their sons. I have one nephew who has a high degree of curiousity and loves to read, he will read anything without prompting.
